Watching out for the Wild Life at Rye Hill

Guests last week were delighted to have seen a Barn Owl flying low over our farm road on their way back from an evening meal at the Rose and Crown pub in the village, they then saw a Roe deer in the wood, though it quickly vanished back in to the cover of the trees. Next morning we found these 2 Smooth Newts in the dog water bowl, we do see them periodically, they live in the stone walls and are not easy to spot but this is the second time they have appeared in the dog’s water bowl. There are also several Hares about in the fields I nearly trod on a Leveret when inspecting the sheep yesturday, it leaped up and was off.

Ladycross Nature Reserve just up the road in Slaley Forest has Nightjar walks in the quarry lead by Colin Jewitt in July they also have a Dragonfly walk on 11 August. For more information call Joan on 01434673245 or Pat 01434 673388
