Features and Facilities
Hidden away on Rye Hill Farm near Hexham, is one of the most secluded, small campsites in Northumberland - guests have described it as "our secret" and "a gem”. If you’re looking for a peaceful stay in beautiful surroundings, then you’ll love our campsite. It’s ideal for children and adults who enjoy country life and you can explore our working farm with its sheep, ponies and free-range chickens.
Our farm is in Slaley near Hexham, deep in the heart of the beautiful Northumberland countryside and, is within the North Pennines AONB and, is close to the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. Our campsite is ideally placed for visiting Slaley Hall, Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hexham and Corbridge, and for walking and cycling on the North Pennine Moors AONB and in Kielder Forest.
Campsite Location
We have a small field area, specifically allocated to camping and caravanning. It is a well-maintained grassy campsite - quiet and level with access via a tarmacked lane. It is sheltered by mature beech trees to the west and surrounded by open farm land enabling campers to appreciate the grand panoramic views of Northumberland.
Camping on this grassy site is weather dependant and because it is small, numbers are restricted. It is best to book ahead to avoid disappointment.
Please note that this site is a Certificated Caravan and Camping Club Site and guests must be members however, membership can be bought on site.
Campsite Facilities
The campsite benefits from 5 electric hook-up points and we can accommodate up to 3 units without electric. There is a fresh water tap and waste disposal point on site. There is a single toilet, and second toilet with a shower unit off the adjoining farm yard. Barbecues are allowed but must be off the ground and, please bring your own fuel.
Rye Hill Farm sits on an elevated rural position with superb views, and because it is at the end of our own tarmacked lane it is well away from noise and traffic. Campsite guests are welcome to explore the farm and meet our sheep, ponies and chickens. There are plenty of outdoor play areas, and table tennis, skittles and a pool table in our games barn. Wi-Fi is available across the site.
Children
Children are very welcome on the Rye Hill Farm campsite. They can explore the farm with adult supervision and use our outside play facilities, which include The Mud Pie Kitchen and the Games Barn which has a skittle alley, table tennis and a pool table.
Pets
Rye Hill Farm Campsite is a dog friendly site and pets are welcomed, and we don’t charge extra. We only ask two things of you. The first is that your dog is kept on its lead while out and about on the farm. Rye Hill Farm is a working sheep farm, (plus our neighbours also have sheep), and we have free range chickens that can pop up anywhere. The second ask is that dog poop is bagged and placed in the bins provided. This keeps grass and tracks pleasant for everyone staying on the farm.
Parking
We have plenty of free parking space at Rye Hill Farm.
Nearby
In nearby Slaley village you will find a Community Shop, for all things you might need, and a community owned pub - The Rose and Crown - ideal for meals.
Our campsite is a great base for exploring Northumberland. We are close to Hexham and Corbridge which are just over 10 minutes away by car. Hexham is the largest town in the area with lots to see and do: Hexham Abbey, Saturday outdoor market, shopping at national and independent retailers, the Queen's Hall Arts Centre, the Wentworth Leisure Centre, fishing, golfing, kayaking and Hexham Racecourse. Corbridge is a pretty ex Roman Garrison town with boutique shopping, restaurants and cafes and lovely riverside walks.
